  • Native, perennial woodland plant found in most of the eastern US

  • Typically found in colonies in open woodlands, shady fields and along roadsides and riverbanks

  • Grows best in moist, humus-rich, acidic, sandy to
    loamy soil

  • Attracts pollinators

  • Single white 3" flowers bloom in April-May

  • Umbrella-like leaves measure up to 12" in diameter

  • The fruit is about the size of a small lemon, fleshy, and ripens to a golden yellow during the summer

  • Dormant in the summer, and the foliage disappears

  • This plant has high severity poison characteristics, use gloves when handling

    Zones 3-8
